Maximize Your Cooling System Efficiency

Your cooling system is the primary defense against a DNF (Did Not Finish). Before the event, do more than a quick visual check.

  • Clean the Heat Exchangers: Inspect your radiator and oil cooler fins. Over a season, these collect grass, rubber marbles (bits of discarded tire), and bugs that block airflow. Use a garden hose or compressed air to gently clear the core from the inside out.
  • The Coolant Mixture: Most street cars run a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. However, water transfers heat more efficiently than glycol. Many racing organizations require straight water with a corrosion inhibitor (like Red Line WaterWetter).
  • Sealing the Gaps: Look at the ducting around your radiator. If there are large gaps between the bumper intake and the radiator face, air will take the path of least resistance and flow around the radiator instead of through it.   • Pop-up Canopy: Shade is a luxury you cannot afford to skip in the paddock.
