Diagnostic Workflow for O2 System Integrity
O2 sensor codes indicate symptoms, not solutions. Begin with live scan data. Graph the voltage response. A flat-line signal identifies a circuit break or dead sensor. Sluggish transitions suggest contamination or aging.
Perform a physical inspection next. Trace the harness for exhaust contact. Heat damage ruins insulation. Disconnect the sensor. Inspect for green corrosion, moisture intrusion, and pushed-out pins.
Execute electrical validation. Use a multimeter to confirm 12V at the heater circuit. Verify ground paths. Measure reference voltage on the signal wire. If power and ground are present but the signal is static, the sensor has failed. If voltages are missing, the fault resides in the wiring or PCM. Never replace parts until you verify the circuit.

- Graph live O2 voltage to observe response time.
- Inspect harness for melting, abrasion, or corrosion.
- Check heater circuit power and ground with a multimeter.
- Verify signal wire continuity to the PCM.
- Perform a pin drag test to ensure proper terminal tension.
